Day 10 Return hire car then continue via Foynes and Limerick to Nagles Camping at Doolin
Flying boat museum at Foynes.
View from the upper floor of the museum.
King John's Castle in Limerick
The Cathedral was unfortunately locked.
A renowned gathering place in Limerick. Nagles was ell located for visiting both the Cliffs of Moher and the Aran Islands
Looking across the bay to the Cliffs of Moher
These blocks of limestone are naturally broken in this form.
Looking out to the Aran Islands
The campground was rather well occupied as there was a folk festival on over the weekend. Day 11 Walking tour of the Cliffs of Moher We were again picked up by the Paddy Wagon and taken to the visitor's centre at the Cliffs. It is built into the hill making it rather inconspicuous
It is a popular tourist destination. Inside the information centre. The whole area is fascinating.
It is also a large Puffin breeding station.
We first walked along the cliffs to the south.
Looking SE towards Lahinch Lahinch The Puffins breed in tunnels in the grassy areas on the shelf of the cliffs. Inaccessible for predators. They are difficult to see and my zoom was nt powerful enough to get good photos. If you look carefully there are at least four visible in this cropped photo. You can see white breasts and in two the orage feet are visible
Looking back to the clifftop walk we had just done. Looking across to the Aran Islands.
Note that some people do not heed the warning signs. But it could be dangerous!
No vertigo here!
And it goes straight down.
Looking across to Doolin, our destination.
The path is often very close to the edge. Old Puffin burrows
Sisterly love?
Father!
Getting closer to the camp ground.
I'm still playing catch up!
Doolin township with the folk festival still going.
Day 12 Boat trip to the Aran Islands then drive to Cassidys Pub at Carron
We weren't the only tourist boat under way. This one didn't make it home.
Bike rental was very affordable, but not high class.
Aran sweaters anyone.
Dun Angus Fort at the top of the hill.
Visitor's Centre
Info in the centre.
The original idea was meditation, so this place is called 7 churches. Each person had peace and quiet to meditate and pray. Looking acrossto Connemara where we will be in two days.
Lots of stones in those walls! We have a different boat for the home trip. A faster boat built in aluminium.
Looking across to the Cliffs of Moher
Now we will head for Cassidy's Pub in the Burren An Irish roadblock!
We had phoned Robert Cassidy, the owner and asked if we could park for the night.
We had dinner with a view of the Burren
We had a special wine with dinner but we didn't get to try any of these. |
